Lot’s of studies have been done to track engagement with Facebook pages for major brands with customers. I have studied some and have came up with a quick list of things that you can implement for your own Facebook page.
My theory is if people are looking for this and responding well to it with major brands then we as small business owners and digital entrepreneurs can benefit from these findings especially when you think of the time and money that goes into compiling these facts sometimes.
I think they are worth taking a look at so let me share some..
Keep It Short:
Well looks like twitter and other microblogging sites may have known something we didn’t studies have found there is more engagement with brands that get to the point with short, punchy to the point post of 100 characters or less. Seems strange for Facebook being the main social site that it is but experts speculate people probably get enough “chatter” from family and friends.
Images, Images, Images:
If a picture is worth a thousand words on Facebook it’s worth a lot more likes and comments. Up to 4 times more than some status types making this by far one of the best ways to communicate your message. If possible let the image do the talking if not going with advice above add a short, to the point snippet and you should have a winning combination.
Be There With The Audience:
Some people only post when it is convenient for them. But remember we are providing value and information for others not ourselves. Studies have shown a lift of engagement of 10% for post after 6pm and a 20% lift on weekends. So it would be wise to take advantage of Facebook Page’s scheduling feature.
Ask And You Shall Receive:
Try to include some call to action. Simply asking for likes and comments has been shown to increase response to your post. Asking has proven to be more effective than asking questions to gain interaction or offering deals or offers. So ask away!
Try Captions And Fill In The Blank Post:
Tired of the same ole? Try mixing up your post with some fill in the blank type post (try to keep them niche related even when attempting humor) or captions. This way you can encourage response in a more subtle and non-threatening way. A great alternative.
Well a short list but some ideas that could be used in combination to help you get the most out of your post!
If you have any more you would like to share do so in the comment section also please “share” this with others on the other social networks as well.

Hi Steve,
Great advice here, what I have started to do is share blog posts I find online on my fan page, this has seen a rise in the number of people who view my site, it also keeps my personal wall looking cleaner as well. Thank you for sharing.

Great idea Tristam. Yes you have to be careful about how much content you share on your personal wall. But what your doing is a win/win for everyone. Thanks for what you do.

Steve,
Thanks so much for explaining this. I am currently playing around with a new FB page where I merged with my husband David Merrill.
We are currently working on pictures. I am finding that using my own pictures and captions are attracting more attention than anything else!!!
I didn’t want to take on another “job” lol, but I am seeing an increase of communication and clicks.
A picture is worth a thousand words!!! Also, thanks for the tip on when to post. I assume it is EST? I’ve been playing with that too.
Thanks again,
Donna

Hello Donna your very welcome and just so you know this is the tip of the iceberg but I think it’s enough of a guide to get you off to a great start. Yes EST is usually the guideline but it never hurts to experiment don’t forget to use the Post Scheduler that is built into the page to help with that. Thanks for stopping by.

Afternoon Steve,
I do like “Captions And Fill In The Blank Post” idea. Image posts are the best and always see engagement from those. Small following at the moment so I’m not sure how much more engagement can be sucked of them all. I’ll definetly start to post more and see how that works out.

Hello Simmeon here is a good point someone made to me. Would you rather have 10,000 people who just like your post or would you rather have a 1,000 people who like and trust you and will buy things and products you recommend. I believe in quality over quantity. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for these tips to increase engagement on Facebook. I’ve been working on building my fan base and I know that all of these work! Images seem to be the best method. Starting a conversation and building relationships can be fun on Facebook if it is done correctly. Creating an audience is a key to social media and really engaging makes a big difference. I really like the idea of filling in the blanks post. I will try this one for sure!
Enjoyed our hangout!

Great advice Steve and some that I use myself as well so I know it works.
I use images for sure and ask questions everyday. It’s gets everyone to participate and they love it. As for the time to post, I’ve always heard between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm are the best times and I’ve never had luck on Fridays or the weekends. It’s like my fans have just vanished. But I will admit, I try my best to not stay online all weekend myself so I can see why a lot of them would be taking a break as well.
I agree with everything you shared here and I know there is plenty more that can be learned. I appreciate you sharing this with us.

Thank you Adrienne being the moving target that facebook is you really do have to experiment with times. I have seen post get great response at different times as well. But I do see more engagement a little later in the evenings when people are home from work but there again that is something you have to test for yourself. Thank you for stopping by.

Awesome tips Steve, I think I’m guilty of number 3….Be There With Your Audience. But have learnt my lesson now. Its no doubt that Facebook is a very good source of traffic that we shouldn’t joke with, so lets take it serious.
Thanks for sharing Steve.

This is great info Steve. I like the simplicity…nothing here we can’t all do …will definitely check out the scheduling feature. I am one of those people who is guilty of posting at my convenience…which is often at odd times like late at night or very early in the morning.
